Salmat’s Table
Salmat’s Table is a ceramic studio embedded in slowness, intention, and everyday ritual. What began as a personal practice has evolved into a space for making, sharing, and continuous becoming.
How It Began
In April 2024, at 6am, I received a message from my previous employer: my position had been terminated.
After the initial shock, I found myself searching for something to steady my mind and spirit. That same week, I signed up for a pottery class.
I left that first class in a state of profound calm and quiet joy. I fell in love instantly.
A month later, I bought my first wheel and began teaching myself at home, since the nearest studio was too far away (thank you, Austin traffic).
Working in Clay
It’s hard to fully describe the solitude and peace that comes with working in clay.
When I’m throwing or handbuilding, it feels like I disappear into my own world. The noise softens, and what remains is form, texture, colour, and the quiet act of making.
Salmat’s Table Today
I’ve since returned to full-time work, but I also converted my garage into a small studio (my car has been exiled, apologies to it).
I began sharing my process online from my very first class, and the response was unexpectedly warm and encouraging. Over time, this evolved into creating intentional collections and hosting The Makers Table—an extension of the same practice of slowing down and making by hand.
It is a significant amount of work, but it is a true labour of love.
